Things to Consider When You Change Commercial Cleaning Company

Cleaning services are essential to running a safe, healthy and appealing workspace, so having a good provider on board is a valuable investment. If you’re not satisfied with the services being provided by your current cleaning company, or you’ve been with the same company for some time, you might want to consider finding a new commercial cleaning provider that will better match your needs. Plus, you could save on costs and the process can be made much smoother by asking your potential providers the right questions.

Here are things to consider when you’re looking to change to a new commercial cleaning company:

What level of insurance do they have?

A reputable commercial cleaning company should have the correct legal requirements in place, which includes insurance. Make sure that prospective cleaning companies are insured for every clean and have the right level of cover. Is accidental damage and public liability covered? See if they’ll let you look at their license and their written policy regarding their insurance, or if they have this information on their website.

What are your priorities for the service?

Let your potential cleaning company know exactly what services you want and what you don’t need. For instance, you may only require a fortnightly clean, or ask that they leave the desks. You may also prefer that they clean out-of-hours, so ask if there is an additional cost involved. Ensure that you’re both clear about what they will offer you – ask them for a provisional quote for an agreed scope of work before you sign a contract.

Are there any additional costs?

Familiarise yourself with the company’s pricing, and consider whether their quote is reasonable for the amount of work and whether it fits in with your budget. Again, make sure that you’re very clear about the total cost and that there aren’t hidden charges. A cheaper quote doesn’t necessarily mean better value either. Although you may be tempted by the cheapest option you could be left with a poorer quality of work.

What kind of contract is being offered?

Check how long you’ll be tied into a contract. You may prefer a monthly or quarterly rolling contract over a long-term one.

Are their employees properly trained and reliable?

Ask the cleaning company about the training and vetting processes for their employees. Finding out whether they run sufficient checks is important for your security, especially if employees will be working after hours.

Do they have a good reputation?

Before hiring a commercial cleaning company it’s a good idea to ask for client references. This way you’ll get a better view of how they operate and communicate with their clients. Ask the references whether they find the company to be reputable, reliable and trustworthy, and whether their services are being upheld to a consistent high standard. You should also check the company’s accreditations and find out how long they’ve been in business. This will give you an indication of their level of experience and expertise.
